PALS Algorithms: What You Need to Know

Algorithms are not treatment protocols, as some believe. They are educational tools designed to help learners acquire and retain large amounts of information with more ease. The goals of AMRI’s PALS algorithms are to provide knowledge pertaining to:

  • pediatric vs. adult anatomy and physiology
  • commonly used pediatric drugs
  • pediatric CPR
  • specific clinical problems, including:
    • respiratory distress
    • respiratory failure
    • shock
    • pediatric respiratory/and or cardiac arrest
    • ethics and decision-making
    • toxicology
    • trauma and injury protection
    • basic review of neonatal resuscitation

The learning materials and PALS algorithms provided by AMRI offer detailed information and charts. The PALS provider certification examination is based on these study materials, which were developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association (AHA).
