INDICATIONS
- Administered to all seriously-ill patients with respiratory dysfunction, trauma, shock, or who are being stabilized, even if oxyhemoglobin saturation is within normal range
- Once stabilized, administration can be determined through oxygen-monitoring
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
- High concentrations during resuscitation and stabilization
- A non-rebreathing mask with reservoir can deliver up to 95% using 10–15 liter/minute flow
- Once stabilization has occurred, reduce oxygen and avoid causing oxidative injury (maintain normal oxygen levels as soon as possible)
