Conflict Can Have a Negative Impact on Your Heart Health

Since the late 80’s, health researchers have known that people with a large social circle tend to live longer, healthier lives than those who are reclusive.  But what of those who have a lot of social interaction that is filled with conflict? That was the focus of a recent study conducted by psychologists Rodlescia Sneed and Sheldon Cohen of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

The findings of this study are described by Pittsburgh Post Gazette reporter Eric Boodman in an article entitled “Stress from interpersonal conflict may spur high blood pressure.” In this article Boodman explains that negative and unpleasant social interaction can lead to the development of high blood pressure in women between the ages of 51 and 64, showing that women seem to take negatively more personally than men do.

The article is very interesting and is worth reading.
