Statins are highly effective at reducing cholesterol, which is good for your heart. Unfortunately, according to this article by Madelyn Fernstrom of TODAY, they may also lead to weight gain, which puts a strain on your heart.

The weight gain can be attributed to the statin-users consuming more calories and fats which leads researchers to believe that a false sense of security may be more to blame than the drug itself.
