Cholesterol Medications May Have Adverse Effects on Weight

Statins are highly effective at reducing cholesterol, which is good for your heart. Unfortunately, according to this article by Madelyn Fernstrom of TODAY, they may also lead to weight gain, which puts a strain on your heart.

Fernstrom states that a study that was conducted over a period of 10 years found that those taking statin medications gained substantially more weight that those were not taking statins.

The weight gain can be attributed to the statin-users consuming more calories and fats which leads researchers to believe that a false sense of security may be more to blame than the drug itself.
