Hospital Vendor Allegedly Steals $48,000 Hospital Bed

During a bold heist in broad daylight, a man walked into a Florida hospital and walked out with a $48,000 operating bed. The theft was caught on hospital surveillance cameras leading to the arrest of 52-year-old Lance James Sayre.

Sayre, who worked at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL as a self-employed equipment repair vendor, was charged with burglary and grand theft. He posted a $15,000 bond and was released. According to Outpatient Surgery, Sayre was previously convicted of felony grand theft in 1985 and had prior arrests for aggravated battery and contempt of court.

It is still unknown whether police recovered the stolen Berchtold Operating Bed from Sayre. A hospital spokesperson declined to comment on the bed’s whereabouts since the police investigation is ongoing. The hospital did say they are reviewing their security policies and procedures to see if changes need to be made to prevent future thefts.
